Jesus, the Truly Human One
"I can't believe I did this again." Has that thought ever run through your mind? That thing you swore you'd never do or say again, that thing you thought you had grown past, has reared its ugly head again. The Old Testament comes to a close with a glaring tension: God has promised redemption for humankind, but the same heartsickness of sin that has infected all of humankind is just as much at work in the children of Israel, the people to whom God had revealed himself, given His promises and commandments and sworn to use in His plan of salvation. If even God's people continue to mistrust God, what hope can there be? It's against this backdrop that the New Testament introduces us to Jesus of Nazareth, the one who has suffered as we have suffered and been tempted as we have been tempted, yet who has succeeded where we have failed. Join us as we learn what this means and why this matters for our lives today as we continue our deep dive into the big story of Scripture by looking at Luke 4:1-13 and seeing Jesus, the Truly Human One.
